Established in 2021, Feeding Appomattox is a local project that sends hot meals out to those in our community on Thanksgiving morning. Food is donated and prepared by local restaurants, businesses, and community members. Volunteers gather throughout the week to prepare, set up and on Thanksgiving morning we spend time in worship and prayer before each team hits the road. Teams deliver meals and pray with the families. We sponsored our church team Holy Walkamoiz. We held several fundraisers throughout the year such as a Spaghetti Dinner and homemade peanut butter eggs at Easter. Team Members gather together during the big event, honoring those who have beat cancer and remember loved ones we have lost.
We collect food in boxes located in the narthex and the door entering Legacy Hall. Once a month we partner with Mac's Kitchen a local food pantry in Appomattox. Interested in donating? Mac's Kitchen accepts a variety of pantry items.
When reestablishing our missions committee in 2023, team captions strived to give back locally to the community. August 2023, Memorial Methodist hosted our first Community Give Back Day. We collected a variety of items such as household items, furniture, toys/books, baby items, clothes/shoes, medical supplies, and more. Community members were invited to come and take what they may need. There is also a prayer table set up where prayer requests are taken and members will be praying for our community.
For many years our church has been working to support Stepping Forward Ministries in a variety of ways. Stepping Forward Ministries is a non-profit Evangelical mission agency founded in 2005 to share the Gospel with the children in Romania.
We support Serge Missions by raising money for missionaries who are connected within our church and live overseas. We love when they get to come visit back in the states and share updates. For more information, go to www.serge.org
We support Samaritan's Purse by filling shoeboxes with gifts for children. The boxes, which also contain a Christian message, are distributed around the world. For more information, go to www.samaritanspurse.org/occ. Also be on the lookout in October/November in the church newsletter and bulletins for collection days.
Around the United States and overseas natural disaster hit when we least expect them. During these times, we reach out to those in need by collecting monetary donations or items in need to send may it be with the Red Cross, Gleaning for the World, or directly to a church that was affected.
Communion Rail Offering: On the First Sunday of even months (February, April, June, etc.) donation baskets are placed for monetary donations and announcements are made for which organization the donations will be sent.
